Wicker Park Afternoon

Categories: Explore, Travel

One of my favorite Chicago neighborhoods to explore on a random Saturday afternoon is Wicker Park and the bordering Bucktown neighborhood – fantastic shopping, restaurants, coffee shops, bars and more than anything PEOPLE WATCHING!  I feel like I’m in Williamsburg, Brooklyn a little bit because the vibe is decidedly artistic and hipsters are in full force and handle-bar mustaches and skinny pants are in no short supply!  Lingering over margaritas, delicious tacos and the best guacamole in the city at Big Star is a neighborhood ritual and a great way to spend a lazy Saturday afternoon with friends. PLUS the new and improved patio makes for a shorter wait thankfully.  The shopping is a great mix of unique one-of-a-kind boutiques and some well established names (Nike store on Damen is so much easier to shop than Niketown on Michigan Aven).  Cynthia Rowley, Club Monaco, Lululemon, Free people all have small boutiques within blocks of each other.  Vintage or second hand clothing stores line Milwaukee and make for great finds. Dueling donut shops, The Bongo Room and a new and improved The Goddess and Grocer allow you to make healthy OR indulgent choices for breakfast and lunch. Dinner in Wicker Park and the Bucktown area is a whole other blog post that I WILL WRITE with endless options but overall Wicker Park is a FANTASTIC place to spend a Saturday afternoon and a great destination for visitors who want to get a taste of a unique Chicago neighborhood away from the Magnificent Mile and Millennium Park area!!  Here is some contact info for places I mentioned:

1. Big Star – 1531 North Damen

2. Stan’s Donuts – 1560 North Damen

3. The Bongo Room – 1470 North Milwaukee

4. Cynthia Rowley – 1653 North Damen

5. Myopic Books – 1564 North Milwaukee

6. The Goddess and Grocer – 1646 North Damen
