Breathtaking. It’s the only word to describe our journey up to Mount Pilatus after spending several days in the charming and beautiful Swiss town of Luzern. After a short train ride to Alpnachtstadt we took the “world’s steepest cog rail” 40 minutes vertical to the top of Mount Pilatus….where you can enjoy views of the Swiss Alps from every direction. And they are truly breathtaking. Jack was in a good mood all day and loved the cog rail trip up. (Yes you can bring a stroller). He kept laughing uncontrollably the whole way up and we had no idea why. He must love travel as much as his Mom. Smile. He fell asleep at the top so we enjoyed some wine and a light lunch. It was the perfect temperature with sunny skies and the view back down the mountain was even better.
I can’t say enough good things about Luzern. Loved the city – the people – the shopping (I didn’t buy anything but I loved looking). Luzern is a fantastic mid point for any travel in Switzerland. It is 40 minutes from Zurich by train and is the quintessential Swiss town by Lake Luzern. The Swiss City Marathon happened to be going on while we were there so we found ourselves in the middle of all the fun and excitement.
For dinner I insisted we try Swiss fondue which turned out to be a big mistake. When it arrived, the melted cheese pot was only served with bread and potatoes. Mike was not a fan. And either was I. There is a great fondue spot in Chicago that is amazing…Geja’s. (and I kinda wished we were eating there last night). We ordered room service when we got back to the hotel. Whatchagonnado? Tomorrow we have an early wakeup call as we say goodbye to Switzerland and take a direct train to Milan, Italy!!! Ciao!
