Why Vienna? Why not!

Our first full day in Vienna was spectacular! (Partly because I had zero expectations.) I had always heard Vienna was a gorgeous city but honestly it was the least expensive city to fly into from Chicago and we are on a budget! So BOOM ticket purchased and now we are here discovering Austria and it’s beautiful capital. Last night it was pouring rain when we left the Hotel Savoyen headed to dinner at the Austrian Biergarten, Salm Brau for Bier and Wienerschnitzel. We were drenched when we rolled our stroller inside the bustling restaurant. We definitely got some strange looks from the beer-guzzling locals but thank God for my Baby Jogger City Mini stroller that collapses with one pull.  The waiter decked out in Lader-hosen gave me an impressed look as I collapsed and condensed it and then quickly slid it under the table in one flourish!  VUN-DA-BAR!!! Getting around with the GEAR is the hardest part about traveling with a baby (stroller – diaper bag-baby bjorn) but it is not impossible and I’m starting to get the hang of it!  Best Stroller for Travel: City Mini by Baby JoggerThe next morning I was beyond thankful for gorgeous and sunny weather for our full day of Vienna sightseeing.  After a quick stop for Viennese coffee, we headed to Stephensplatz (the main Cathedral in the center of Vienna.)  From there we walked to the Hofburg Palace and many, many museums in the palace compound.  We took our sweet time and if Jack needed attention or a nap we stopped for coffee or wine 🙂 and let him nap.  You kinda just have to be flexible. We made a rough itinerary of how we wanted the day to go and then we were ready to throw it out the window if a meltdown was imminent. Ended the day at Belvedere Palace – AMAZING VIEWS OF VIENNA from every single window – and I was also surprised to learn that Gustav Klimt’s famous painting “The Kiss” was part of a special exhibition. I was reprimanded by a security guard after I took a photo. Whoops.  Can’t speak German. All in All – a GREAT day!  Next stop…..SALZBURG!!
