This Chicago winter has been absolutely BRUTAL. Ask anyone. I have found myself craving comfort food like never before. When NINE DEGREES is NORMAL and you have worn snow boots for more than 10 days in a row, there is nothing like a big steaming bowl of hot soup to hit the spot! One of my favorite spots to go is Slurping Turtle in Chicago’s River North neighborhood where Chef Takashi has crafted a menu to mirror his “childhood culinary experiences.” Translation: Japanese Comfort Food.
I ordered a pork bun to start and then Roasted Chicken Shoyu Ramen which is a steaming bowl of broth, floating ramen noodles, scallions, roasted chicken, a poached egg, bamboo shoots, and bok choy. Added a big draft beer of Kirin Light just because 🙂 While you wait, you can enjoy Japanese “anime” playing in a loop on the monitors as well as the casual, cafeteria style vibe makes Slurping Turtle an absolutely delicious way to warm up on a Saturday afternoon…. http://slurpingturtle.com/chicago/
