St. Regis Punta Mita

Wow. Wow. Wow. Just returned from five fantastic days in Punta Mita, Mexico!  I had never even heard of Punta Mita until I was eavesdropping on a conversation at a pool two years ago.  A group of women were discussing favorite travel destinations and hotels and of course I had to lean in and listen in. I practically fell in the pool trying to take mental notes of all of the wonderful places they recommended.  I ended up joining the conversation and we all became fast friends.  The one spot that all of the women agreed on was….Punta Mita!  And so I put it on the proverbial “bucket list” where it stayed until this week when it turned from dream to reality.   Punta Mita is a 45-minute drive from Puerta Vallarta (which has a direct flight from Chicago on United-YES!).   We stayed at the St. Regis Punta Mita and from the second we opened the door of the cab to the second we shut the door to get in the cab to home, the service was impeccable.IMG_0898  Whether it was getting extra slices of watermelon for Jack…(We didn’t ask for them) (Thank you Javier!) or hunting down some sand toys (Thank you Luis!) it was a combination of the little moments that made the trip so wonderful.  The strange thing about really great service is that it isn’t hard but few people go the extra mile and we certainly experienced people who did this week! We are very grateful!

Our favorite meal and maybe one of the best locations for a beach dinner anywhere in the world is Mita Mary…a small six or seven table restaurant on the beach where you can have your feet in the sand while trying the grilled octopus, lobster tacos and tuna tostada.  Jack tried the octopus and loved it!

IMG_0897After the first day of many margaritas, I decided to switch to rose wine and my only regret of the trip is that I didn’t write down the name of that wine…it was so delicious.  My final and favorite moment of the trip was taking in the beautiful sunset while having a glass of rose and reflecting on this past year.  I have so much to be grateful for…including this wonderful birthday celebration in Punta Mita Mexico.  We will be back!!

Sun sets on a beautiful trip!
