You could easily miss River North’s cool new spot Bottlefork. It’s wedged between Rick Bayless’ food empire of Topolobombo, Frontera Grill and Xoco and the boisterous Bub City BBQ that commands the night air on Clark street with huge open doors and a sports-watching chow-down vibe. Bottlefork is more subtle. It has a really eclectic unusual meat-centric menu and a dynamite wine and beer list. Wagyu beef jerkey or Tater tots drizzled with pimento cheese are just the start. This ain’t no watch your wait kinda food. We ordered an appetizer purely for the name. Bag of crisps and eggs. ?? It was basically salt and vinegar potato chips shaken in a bag tableside with a poached egg. Different huh? We liked them and found them oddly addicting. Potato gnocchi with goat cheese, smoked lamb ribs with tamarind bbq and mint sauce, as well as an incredible burger are just some of the standouts. We also tried the Pork Belly and Sausage Porchetta with crispy masa and cotija cheese..incredible. With low warm lighting and a jam packed bar, the vibe is friendly and casual and I can’t wait to come back in the middle of winter and split a bottle of red. More details here.
