GUEST BLOG: Meredith Lee, Amateur Photographer
Where are you from originally? Milwaukee, Wisconsin
When did you move to Chicago? Three years ago
What is it about photography that you love? One of my favorite things to do on a Sunday is explore the city with my camera and phone in hand. You never know what you’ll stumble upon. There could be a hidden gem in an alley way or you might find a beautiful shot of a boat along the river. Sometimes you happen to be in the right place at the right time. Chicago is full of surprises!
Favorite Spot to take a picture? Kinzie Street Bridge
Favorite time of day to shoot? Sunrise or sunset
Type of Camera used? iPhone 5 AND Nikon DSLR 3100 but anyone with a smartphone can point, shoot, capture and upload.
From Meredith: The coolest part about a photo is that it captures a moment in time…a memory, an image, a look that will never be seen again. That’s amazing! I’m always looking around for different shots. I really enjoy shooting sunrises and sunsets. They are each unique and stunning in their own way. Try taking a picture from the same spot on different days. You’ll see how it can change the entire look of the city. You can always point, shoot and get a nice photo, but try getting creative with it. Get up high or on the ground and find a different perspective. Look at your image from a new angle and it might change your picture completely. I also started using props to enhance the look. There are so many ways to change it up. Here are a few examples…
Remember there no mistakes in photography. Your photo is whatever you want it to be. Each snap teaches you something new and you’ll keep getting better. I’ve always loved taking photos, but I didn’t realize how much I loved it until I moved to Chicago. Keep practicing and improving your skill. Also, check out instagram and follow #chitecture and #chicago. There are so many talented chicago photographers sharing their awesome work. I get inspired by seeing their photos and it helps me think of new ideas. Have fun! You will capture so many beautiful memories that you’ll cherish forever. 🙂
